International Pocus Academy (IPA) is founded as an extension of International POCUS Organization (IPO). The IPO was founded on March 19th, 2019 by several members of various national and international POCUS certification bodies. The purpose of IPO was to promote the quality of Point-Of-Care-Ultra-Sound education by setting standards and POCUS curriculum, providing international certification, online training, and continuous education in medical diagnostic ultrasound.

The Academy was initially formed within the IPO. In 2023, it was decided to upgrade the entire IPO into an Academy - an international educational network of national schools of Point-Of-Care-Ultra-Sound (POCUS). Over the past few years, the Academy has undergone another transformation. Some national schools have ceased to be active, and some members who were previously part of the Board or Directors have now become just observers of our activities. In this sense, IPA has truly become a network of schools with a loosely structured collaboration, rather than a formal organization with strict hierarchy.

Instead of the previous Board, the Academy is now governed by a Council of Directors, composed of the most active representatives of the strongest POCUS schools that are part of our network. Currently, this includes representatives from POCUS Academy of Serbia, representatives from the Moscow POCUS organization led by Dr. Vsevolod Lykhin, as well as countries where POCUS schools were established by this outstanding enthusiast - such as Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Armenia, and others. We also have our honorary president Dr. Gedeon Gelin from Haiti, who continues with his enthusiasm despite all the horible events in his country. Our friend, Dr. John Wilton from the USA leads a great Facebook page where diagnostic knowledge can also be shared. We also have members and friends in UAE, Nigeria, Spain, Germany, Bosnia and Herzegovina, etc...

Decisions are currently made by consensus in non-formal meetings, and we expect that POCUS schools in other countries will soon develop to the same level as the POCUS Academy of Serbia.
